Modeling of calcium sulphate scale formation during nucleate pool boiling

The widespread use of boilers in industry, demands a deeper knowledge of the phenomena related to boiling heat transfer.  One of the phenomena which is still not understood is the fouling of the boiler heat transfer surfaces.  Fouling is the formation of undesired deposits on heat transfer surfaces.  The deposit, due to very low thermal cond., usually decreases the overall heat transfer coeff. and, therefore, causes a significant loss of thermal exchange capacity.  Calcium sulfate has a major contribution in the heat transfer surface scales in wide variety of industries. The main objective was to study the mechanism of CaSO4 fouling during pool boiling.  A predictive model for the scaling of this salt under pool boiling was developed that predicts the exptl. fouling rates with good accuracy
